FASHION TRENDS OF THE 90'S VS. THE NEW MILLENIUM

We've came such  a long ways fashion-wise, but in the last twenty years alone there has been some unforgettable fads that have came and gone; and still few linger around. Currently, we are in the era of skinny jeans, oversized shoulder bags, waist-belts, high-waisted trousers, skirts, and shorts, vintage sweaters paired with leggings and knee-high or ankle boots, pencil skirts, frilly shirts; tweed, herringbone, and plaid coats, over-sized sunglasses for mild or extremely bright weather, etc. To get to where we are now, there was the fad from yesterday (the fad of the 90's). In those days, not long ago, we lived through the acid-wash/stone-wash jeans ("90210" and "Saved by the Bell"), belly shirts, jelly shoes, fanny pack, ESPRIT wear, hot- colored leggings and bicycle shorts paired with long white shirts, rolled up socks, and L.A. Gear light-ups; M.C. Hammer pants, cut-off shorts, Jordache, Keds, Fila, Converse (a.k.a. Chuck Taylors), etc.
So what was the difference between fashion of the 90's compared to that of the new millenium? To me, fashion in the 90's was an era of fads. When a certain look arrived, everyone followed. The new millenium however, is an era of "creativity." In the early 2000's there was a slight fad, but after people started understanding the beauty of fashion they also started to contribute their own individual tastes. That is what fashion is all about even in the new decade.
With that said, look out for new trends in the coming season. One trend that I sense will have a major impact is the trend of "studs," whether it be studded racer-back tangtops, pumps, clutches, or dresses---studs are definitely the next big thing of the season. You don't have to go out and purchase all of these of you don't already have them, but atleast acquire one to incorporate with what you already have in your closet.
