WHAT SECRETS WILL THEY REVEAL THIS YEAR?

This is the show that makes us want to get our bodies into gear as part of our New Year's resolution(s). Want those abs and lean legs? They don't come naturally to most, but as my father used to tell me; wherever there is a will, there is a way. So ladies, let us ALL congregate (in the name of the VS Angels) in eating celery sticks or apples while watching the show tomorrow. For those who will miss their workout (like myself) in lieu of watching the show, don't feel guilty. Just watch the show and continue chewing those celery sticks! We too shall get there (where ever "there" may be for each of us).
With their gorgeous bodies and signature struts, who will be the feature angels of this year's infamous Victoria's Secret Fashion Show? So far, a few of this year's supermodels will include 'Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Chanel Iman (my favorite) Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Behati Prinsloo', and other surprises (tvgrapevine.com). Tune in on Tuesday, November 30th (10-11 PM, EST, PT) for this year's secrets to be revealed!
Here is a look of my favorite past Victoria Secret supermodels and their styles:

DEALS,DEALS...AND MORE DEALS

Today marked the busiest shopping day of the year because of consumers like you and me! That's right ladies, avid shoppers like us on BLACK FRIDAY contribute to the economic flow and record profits for the nation. Some of you refuse to step into any retail outlet on BLACK FRIDAY; claiming that the day is filled with too much craziness and the risk of unsafety is too high to sacrifice one's pockets for such a short amount of time. So what do some people do on this day? Sit at home and wish for great deals like those on BLACK FRIDAY to return just before Christmas arrives. That was me for the past few years, but I decided to make a change and experience the craziness with the rest of my fashion comrades this year... disappointed, I was not!
I experienced horrible parking and congested parking lots, early morning door busters, long wait lines, and finally...the ultimate satisfaction of sacrificing my time and patience for those insatiable wants I've so longed for. In all, I would have to say that this BLACK FRIDAY (2010) was very memorable. How was yours?
Remember that BLACK FRIDAY is the beginning of the holiday season's deals. They are not over! Monday (11/29) will be Cyber Monday, so don't forget to catch the deals you missed today on line. Here are some deals to look into:
*Amazon
*Bath & Body Works: buy 3, get 3 free signature collection 11/25 thru 11/28
*LORAC: Cyber Monday collection ($100 value) for $25, 11/29 only
*And some of my favorites: Ulta, Target, NY & CO, H&M, Express, Old Navy, Victoria's Secret (great bra and panties deals for the holidays), White House Black Market, Aldo, Cathy Jean, etc.
Let us also remember our local small businesses, so your job for the rest of the holidays is to make atleast one purchase at one local boutique...I DARE YOU!
Til next time. Happy Holidays to all of you loyal followers and fashionistas!

WHAT'S YOUR LUCKY NUMBER?

Last year, it was all about the ankle booties!  Every woman should've had one in their closet. This year, in addition to the booties, it is time to invest in the knee-highs---knee-high boots that is. With a variety of styles ranging from flat-heeled motorcyclist boots to stiletto peep-toes, EVERY woman's closet should possess at least one pair. Owning a pair of knee-high boots is like having that little black dress you can pull out for any special occasion. Remember that you do not have to go with the current fad. Pick a style that represents you for who you are and not what ShoeDazzle says you should be. With that being said, what's your lucky number? My lucky number for this year is size 6.5 taupe colored peep-toe Shelby Thigh-High Boots. 'Til next time!

PLAID IS BACK!

With more varieties than ever before, it no longer has to represent the old stereotypical look we were once accustomed to---COWBOY. Plaid is back, and like other styles, can be worn in many different ways! Let's start with those plaid scarves ladies! Since winter is quickly approaching and we can no longer show off those sexy low-cut blouses, it is now time to customize those scarves as our personal jeweled necklaces.
For a more casual look, you can pair a plaid scarf with a long-sleeved tunic, jeans or spandex, and stylish flats to make the outfit pop a little; and for a semi-casual look, add a solid color pea coat  and  boots of your choice. Let's not forget that plaid scarves are not the only articles of clothing we can be creative with. There are many other options of plaid to pick from---blouses, the original button-down plaid shirts (accessorized with a belt), shirt dresses, skirts, and last but not least...pea coats. It's time to get out and get that piece of plaid that will accentuate and enhance your closet for the coming season! Til next time ladies!

NEW TRENDS FOR THIS SPRING

It's that time of the year again...time to throw out the old and bring out the new. We must all prepare for what's right around the corner; S-P-R-I-N-G! For those with allergies, stalk up on your medication as you prepare to make many gracious appearances to show off your new looks for this year's spring trends.
Last year's trends consisted of exotic prints, vibrant colors, bold jewelry, jump suits, shimmering sequins, and vest jackets. What does this spring have in store for us? This year's spring forecast is based on my many online shopping experiences. With that in mind, the most popular trends for this year I believe will be floral prints (mainly on dresses), pale colors mixed with metallic accessories, chiffon (blouses and dresses), imprints, jumpsuits (instead of pants from last year, this year will be comprised of rompers), and my favorite; one shoulder dresses.
There are a few mild days in spring as well, so to prepare for some warmth, keep the light trench coats and cardigans out as. Trench coats can be paired up with pants, dresses, or worn as a dress paired with a bold belt of your choice! Cardigans are also versatile pieces that can be worn with almost anything. What are you waiting for? Revamp those closets and make room for your favorite spring fashion pieces! Remember, if you have any problems or questions, you can always turn to Huldah's Eikon for assistance and ideas.

EIKONIC FIND

I came across these oxford wedges while doing some shopping on an  online boutique and thought they definitely deserve the attention. Again, this is what fashion is about...innovation! I've seen lace oxford pumps, but never wedges, especially ones like these. Different, I must say. What do you think?

AFRICAN SWAG REPRESENTED

I am honored to attend the 1st Annual African Angelz Fashion Show in Sacramento, and looking forward to many more as this one was a major success. This show represented beauty, elegance, creativity, and sass; all through the eyes of my native African designers and models.  So what is African fashion all about? Let's start with the exhubberance of bright colors and pattern mix, tailored to fit each individual's swag (personality). That is what differentiates African fashion from the rest of the world. Each style was tailored specifically to each model's body type, unlike mainstream fashion shows that take place in New York, Milan, and London. These looks aren't ones you can purchase at Macy's or bloomingdales. If you are ever interested in an African design, you will be fitted and your style will be tailored to your own uniqueness.
Although the models did a phenomenal job gracing the run way with their spunk, the designers were responsible for bringing each style to life as they envisioned. These styles were to die for! Each designer (Theresa Nartey from Teeza Creation, Edgingtine Harmon from Edgingtinie Model Management Agency, Kim Greene-Gray, "The Stitch Witch" aka the "Lady of Fashion," and the youngest designer at the age of 21, Crystal Anderson) did an amazing job showcasing their work by transforming cultural looks to that of varied western influence with today's fashion trends. Amazing designers like these are responsible for the SWAG that is gracefully worn and represented by clients like us.
Job well done to the organizer of the 1st Annual African Angelz Fashion Show: Mr. Radcliff Mongbeh; the phenomenal African models representing beauty, elegance, and grace; and the amazing designers who continue to shine light on African fashion, especially in the western world!

THE NEW ALEXANDER MCQUEEN CLUTCH:

I came across this clutch about two weeks ago and was so stoked about my find!  Ladies, this will be another important piece to add to your collection! The $447 price tag for this piece is not in my budget, but I will find an inspired replica just like it, and when I do I will let you all know. ‘Til then, have a great one!

Alexander McQueen Clutch
Update: please join me in a moment of silence as we received the devastating news of losing another fashion icon today: Alexander McQueen, you will be greatly missed in the world of fashion, but your style will continue to be admired by many. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

AWARD SHOWS' BEST DRESSED CONVERTED TO REAL LIFE STYLES?

Last night's SAG Awards revealed stunning beauties who left their fashion footprints on the red carpet before collecting their film award. I found myself oohing and ahhing along with the crowd and the host as the actors and actresses strutted their assests down the isle. We all anxiously wait on the awards for one thing only...the red carpet fashion. Last night's SAG Awards displayed actresses and performers in their best gowns; some of which were strapless, sequin, one-shoulder, and off-shoulder. There were bold, bright, soft pastel colors and prints that were to die for! The honorable Meryl Streep, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Marion Cotillard, Lea Michele, Diane Kruger, and Kyra Sedgwick are just a few of my top favorites that rocked their looks to the fullest (head to toe).
I love the award shows and what they have to offer, but can they really be used as a meaurement for future fashion trends? High-profiled actresses are expected to wear beautiful and expensive gowns, and sometimes that makes it impossible to convert to a local style for people like you and me.Therefore, I do not think that award shows are good measurements for future fashion trends. What do you think?

ICONIC PICKS FOR THE COMING SEASON

Leather skirts and dresses, lace, studs, bright-colored hold-u-in skirts...they're here and bolder than ever! Are you prepared for what Spring has to offer this year? Here are a few iconic looks we will all be in love with this year. Enjoy!

DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO'S CREATIVE CROWD

So the beau and I went out for brunch at Orphan yesterday (Great food by the way). While conversing among ourselves I noticed how creative the crowd was with their style of fashion---from the waiters and waitresses, down to customers. Everyone had their own unique individual style, and it was so refreshing to see that.  I've never seen so many different styles of women's peacoats in one setting---from short to long to leather to frilly. Then came the the spandex pants with a pair of winter gladiator peep-toe shoes. Wow, someone that's actually not tucking their pants in their boots this time? Beenies were also accessorized wickedly (good in British) on both sexes, and the eyewear required some double-takes as well. Not only is Orphan a great eatery for breakfast/brunch, it also brought out the creative spirits of Downtown, Sacramento. Moments like this is what makes me love fashion even more.
Cheers to the creative minds of fashion!

Check out Orphan for breakfast/brunch between 8a.m.-2p.m. during the week, and 8a.m.-3p.m. on Saturdays:

FASHION TRENDS OF THE 90'S VS. THE NEW MILLENIUM

We've came such  a long ways fashion-wise, but in the last twenty years alone there has been some unforgettable fads that have came and gone; and still few linger around. Currently, we are in the era of skinny jeans, oversized shoulder bags, waist-belts, high-waisted trousers, skirts, and shorts, vintage sweaters paired with leggings and knee-high or ankle boots, pencil skirts, frilly shirts; tweed, herringbone, and plaid coats, over-sized sunglasses for mild or extremely bright weather, etc. To get to where we are now, there was the fad from yesterday (the fad of the 90's). In those days, not long ago, we lived through the acid-wash/stone-wash jeans ("90210" and "Saved by the Bell"), belly shirts, jelly shoes, fanny pack, ESPRIT wear, hot- colored leggings and bicycle shorts paired with long white shirts, rolled up socks, and L.A. Gear light-ups; M.C. Hammer pants, cut-off shorts, Jordache, Keds, Fila, Converse (a.k.a. Chuck Taylors), etc.
So what was the difference between fashion of the 90's compared to that of the new millenium? To me, fashion in the 90's was an era of fads. When a certain look arrived, everyone followed. The new millenium however, is an era of "creativity." In the early 2000's there was a slight fad, but after people started understanding the beauty of fashion they also started to contribute their own individual tastes. That is what fashion is all about even in the new decade.
With that said, look out for new trends in the coming season. One trend that I sense will have a major impact is the trend of "studs," whether it be studded racer-back tangtops, pumps, clutches, or dresses---studs are definitely the next big thing of the season. You don't have to go out and purchase all of these of you don't already have them, but atleast acquire one to incorporate with what you already have in your closet.

A-C-C-E-S-S-O-R-I-Z-E, Correctly Please!

Haven't we all been in that place where we've seen the next woman work her outfit with so much dignity and confidence that it made us want to get the same one? There is one slight problem however; she makes a slight turn only for us to see that she is NOT working the accesories! What do we say then? "Oh, I'm really going to get that outfit now, and my accessories will be on pointttt." Even the most confident divas and fashionistas are guilty of that at one time or another. So how do you like to accessorize?  I'm more on the simple side when it comes to accessorizing. I don't like to have too much going on, but I still like to stand out in class when I attend a social event. The picture shown are accessories I would actuially wear with a knee-length, slim fit, black strapless dress.  I also love my stilletos, clutches, and a bangle or two.
One of my pet-peeves is seeing a lovely woman all dressed up out at night---with a shoulder bag. FASHION EMERGENCY. Being out at night automatically calls for a clutch. That's an unspoke rule (women code). Not all clutches are made only for glamourous occassions. There are many clutches (small, medium, or over-sized) that can be worn with pants or skirts, and a nice evening blouse or an elegant top of your choice. You don't have to attend a formal event to wear a clucth or other accessories, but make sure you are represented with much style and grace.

MIX 'N MATCH: MAN'S PURSE WITH WOMAN'S STYLE

This morning, a major fashion topic about "man purses" caught my eyes and forced me into a spiraling thought as to how this look can be incorporated into women's fashion as well. Yes, I guess men wear them too. Hearing the words "purse" and "man" in the same sentence wasn't something I wanted to imagine, but after seeing the male models show off their own individual man purse, the idea was not so bad after all. This look, if worn properly, can be pulled off quite well and is something I wouldn't mind seeing my significant other in. The "man purse" can also be worn by women in our own unique way(s). Mix this with a pair of stone-washed ripped jeans, a simple shirt (wife-beater preffered), layered with a boyfriend blazer, and a pair of sexy stiletto pumps. Top this look off with the man purse slung across your chest, and you'll be ready for a "day" out with the girls.

BATTLE OF THE BOOTS

'Tis the season to bring them out...knee highs, mid calf's, closed toe, peep toe, stiletto heeled, flats...whatever you prefer, it's time to bring the boots out! While shopping for boots for this season, I noticed there is a tremendous shortage of pointy toed styles. This year consists of more round toed styles along with stacked platform heels. If you have a pair of pointy toed boots in your closet, please save them as they may be very handy during times like this.
Remember that boots can be worn in many different ways: with dresses, skirts, buttoned up knee-length pea coats along with fish net stockings, shorts (with knee/thigh high boots), and pants(over or under when worn with jeans) and (under) when worn with dress pants. I've came into contact with a particular individual who consistently tucks in her dress pants into her boots. At no time is this ever acceptable! This ladies, is not an innovation in the fashion world, instead it's a major fashion FLOP.

DRESS ACCORDINGLY

Ladies,
It's that time of the year again!
You know, the time for all of us to dedicate ourselves to the high bars we've set for our New Year's resolution(s) . To some, the new year is the beginning of a new and healthy diet, while others might be revamping their closets to make room for the "new you." While creating that new self image of yours please remember one thing; "dress accordingly." Once you follow that motto, you will be a-okay. It is important to keep your professional life separate from your private life. If you are heading to work, please dress accordingly. If you are heading to a social event with friends, please dress accordingly. It is okay to throw a blazer on with your jeans and a pair of sexy pumps, but it is never okay, and I repeat "never okay" to wear club attire to work. Before you leave your home, ask yourself if you are dressed accordingly. If you are not quite sure, chances are, you're not. Go back into your closet, put on something appropriate, and call it a day!
